Wow!! "Another View"

Hey everyone

Really quickly, I have just finished my Journal entry trying the "Another view" method.
If you have not yet tried this or are not keen (as i was not as it seemed a bit...wanky) then put all your concerns, fears and preconceptions aside and TRY IT!!!

I just had an incredibly insightful conversation with my sub-contious mind via writing about my day from the point of view of my car keys (i know i know...cheese-arama).

If you have tried this technique already PLEASE let me know how you found it, if you have not yet tried it, PLEASE do, and let me know how it goes.
WOW!!!

Stay safe - Phil

  1. Hi Phil
I haven't tried writing from 'Another view' yet and will definatley give it a go now. Your idea of writing from the point of view of your 'car keys' is definatley whacky! Sounds as if you've opened your Pandora's box!!

  2. Hi Phil, I tried this method a couple of days ago and did it from the perspective of my teaching bag!!
I'm not sure how insightful it was for me however it made me realise that I am lot more sympathetic towards me when writing from 'Another view'. I give myself a much easier time and a lot more positive about myself, both personally and professionally.
I think this method will be good for me on days when I am feeling particularly negative, hopefully it will disperse these negative feelings so some real reflection and positive thinking can take place.
Glad you found a way that really worked for you! Do you think it is a method that you will use on a day to day basis? xx

  3. Phil, I've written from 'Another View' (my husband's) rather than an inanimate object and it just confirmed further my complex confusing mind thoughts and processes. It didn't really help me identify anything new. I probably won't be using this method in the future. There is always the 'Another view' from an inanimate object's perspective. What did you identify about yourself fromt his method?

  4. Hey Phil, I wrote from the point of view of my laptop. I agree that it was extremely insightful. I felt strangely free and good about things when I had finished. Take a look, I posted it on my blog because I found it so bizarre and weirdly easy o write. I will definitely be writing from the point of view of something else again, though I haven't tackled it from the perspective of another person yet.

  5. Hey guys

Thanks for taking the time to let me know how you got on.
I probably would not use this method every day, maybe once or twice a month to really tune into my subconscious or intuition if struggling with a situation with too many facts/factors to see through it clearly.

Jo - Really interesting how we often treat our selves much more harshly than we would ever dream of treating someone else. There's enough negativity out there - Keep listening to your bag, it sounds lovely.

Corinda - Interesting that you did it from a persons perspective. Do you think that maybe you could be projecting onto his point of view, your own interpretations of how he see you. This could in its self be a very interesting exercise (I had not thought of this angle, i might try myself actually to see how i think my Sarah sees me). I would be really interested to see how an inanimate object, one normally without feelings (as a person has), sees your day.

Jessica - I love this idea, i'll go and check it out now. I have not yet tried from another persons point of view yet but as i said to Corinda it could have some very revealing learnings in there.

Keep Blogging and if any other people have an experience with this method please do let me know, it's so interesting.

    Stay safe - Phil

  6. Oh and in answer to your question, What did i identify about myself from this method?

My keys helped me realise that i was sabotaging my new method of daily planning through my ever present impatience and need to over achieve. Taking on too many tasks with too tight a time restriction placed on them was setting myself up to fail and feel negatively about my day when i had actually achieved and succeeded on many other tasks. I promised myself to allocated more time to fewer tasks - prioritise more and to ensure above all else that i am doing what ever i need to do to ENJOY my self and my life. Something really obvious i know but i seem to keep forgetting it - work before play but I have a never emptying inbox of work to complete (that i still relentlessly attempt to empty - so thick sometimes).

So these are the variable lessons i learned from this exercise.

  7. Hi Phil!
I have just tried this method and like you, I thought it would..let's say not be my cup of tea. I did it from the point of view of my iPhone as its something I have with me constantly and I really found myself looking at myself from an outsiders perspective!! I reflected in a way I haven't from the other types of journal writing, maybe as I was in effect, telling someone else's day.
Definitely something I will do if I'm stuck with reflecting again!
    Hope you are well,
    Emma :)
