WANTED!! Help & SIG

WANTED!!
Help & SIG (to take pity on me and take me in)

I know that my line of enquiry, detailed below, sits a little outside the majority of our groups current lines of enquiry (there are however always cross over areas of interest) but I could really do with some advice, Help, guidance as I am about 5 weeks behind, not even looked at Ethics and struggling to find a handhold to get going again.
I have not yet been able to look through every ones topics or find all the SIG groups out there so if you think that we could help each other in any way then please either just leave a comment or private message me at flipcarroll@hotmail.com or txt me and ill call you back for a chat about it all (07967 729 903).
Any help will be hugely welcomed with open arms.

Thank you in advance.

Current lines of enquiry

Hey All

I have, as a result of other things going on, lost a bit of ground on the course. I am now able to start work on the course again and here are my thoughts upon recommencement.
I realised that i was doing what i could towards catching up on the course work but not Blogging about it so no one knew where i was up to, so here are my thoughts.

I am feeling a bit more lost than I thought I would on this section of the course.
I felt that I had quite a clear idea of what my areas of interest were. However as I have begun looking further into module 2 I have begun questioning if I am actually on the right track or not. Over the last two – three weeks I have read through numerous Blogs from both our year and previous years looking for inspiration on past topics, course titles as well as students with whom I could share a SIG.
I Briefly spoke with Alan Durrant and was told that my title needed to be closer related to performing Arts than I had in mind.
My first few thoughts for my award title (to help me in the Public speaking world) was: Human Behaviour or Behavioural Development, something along those lines. I do not feel that a title including the words Performing or Arts would benefit me in my chosen field.
Possibly Education would, but what else…Management, Development.
How about Educational Development?
Surely Public Speaking is only a small extension of performing as is Presenting.
I know quite clearly what I want to get out of this course, or thought I did, but am questioning now if it’s too far removed from performing to tie the two together.

At the end of all of this I feel further back and more confused than I did before. This, I keep trying to tell myself, is a good thing as confusion/frustration is a sign of a forthcoming breakthrough. However this process has begun me questioning whether I want to lecture in the subject/field I was considering before (procrastination). Although its very applicable to many people, does it really interest me?

I am also wrestling a little with finding others with whom I could share a SIG group. Both so I can help them and vise Versa. Is my chosen field too far removed? I’ve been looking around for Presenters, Managers, Business/School starters. There are a number of people on the course with whom I feel  I have made a connection but does it matter that much if our paths are not too similar?

After a second much more productive and focused conversation with Alan I felt much more clear on my route through the course.

I’m going to plot out the topography of the lecturing, coaching, teaching, consulting, education landscape in an effort to discover exactly where and why I want to make my niche.

BUILD UP A TOPOGRAPHY OF THE FIELD OF EDUCTAION/HELPING PEOPLE!!

Now my current lines of enquiry are:
WHAT IS COACHING?
WHAT DIFFERENT KINDS OF COCHING ARE THERE?
IS COACHING LIKE TEACHING/ LECTURING / CONSULTING WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM?
WHAT TYPE OF PERSON IS TYPICALLY DRAWN TO EACH OF THESE DIFFERENT ROLES?
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING IS THERE OUT THERE FOR COACHES?
WHO USES COACHES & WHERE/HOW DO YOU FIND THEM?
WHAT DO COACHES GET OUT OF IT?
WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS - ENVIRONMENT, HOURS, PAY, ENJOYMENT, DIFFICULTY OF GETTING CLENTS, WORK/LIFE BALANCE?
HOW DO THEY START - GET MATERIAL TOGETHER, GET CLIENTS, GET CONFIDENCE TO TEACH OTHERS?
WHAT DO I CURRENTLY KNOW ABOUT IT? WHAT ARE MY FEELINGS ABOUT IT?
WHO CAN I SPEAK TO REGARDING IT?
WHAT DIFFERENTIATES BETWEEN ONE COACH AND ANOTHER, WHY DO PEOPLE CHOOSE A PARTICULAR ONE OVER ANOTHER ONE?
WHY DO PEOPLE/WHO CHOOSES COACHES?

So this is where I'm up to at the moment. I have spent the last 4 days googling Coaches and recording my thoughts on my findings. I need a more structured approach so i think i will make a plan on a calendar so i know what i want to have done by when.
I will try to contact a few coaches and see about interviewing them about their thoughts and experiences to see what else this sparks off in my investigations.

Any thoughts from you would be terrific and are greatly needed!!

Getting back into the flow - Reader 4

After reviewing Reader 4 for the eighth time:

My thought process so far:
My work is definitely transdisciplinary. Lecturing/Teaching, Business and Management, Writing Material, Marketing as well as Performing/Speaking,

My competence is low in my chosen field but I believe that my capability is high.

What are my competencies?
I’m good with people, Natural leader, love giving/ helping/educating, contacts in the field of public speaking, los of life experience, achieved a lot within my own life, empathetic and approachable,

What are my capabilities?
I love learning, im passionate about helping people, I have a great way of explaining/presenting information to people.
No material written down ready to teach, no group of people to talk to, no specific chosen subject yet, no credibility, no experience of speaking/teaching groups

Questions I’m asking myself in search of clarity:
WHAT AM I PASSIONATE ABOUT?
What are my concerns?
Something you are interested in/passionate about
something applicable to my field
something around you all the time so you are thinking about it constantly
Do I understand the topic enough to explore it?
What do you need to find out?
Why will that make a difference to my work and career?
What impact will it have on my job, work colleagues, the sector in which i work?
Can you spread/pass on what i find out anywhere?
Will your project have some sort of impact?
Are you going to develop some new service? a new product? a learning resource?
Is my chosen field too far removed from performing?
What skills do I need for the future?
Are most of my questions thus far pseudo questions or genuine ones?
What’s a job that needs to be done or what im doing anyway

Past titles other students have used that have an area of similarity/interrest for me:
Behaviour Management within a primary school context, primarily focusing on year three children in Key Stage two
An investigation into the Role of Experiential Learning, and its Contribution to the Progression of a Ballet Company
Preparing an Optimised Dance Curriculum for a Mixed Ability Performing Arts Course’,
‘The Transition from Dancer to choreographer within the Field of Musical Theatre
How can you/what do you need to affectively make the transition from one field of performing to another?
The price people pay for their choices. Dancers – fun, no stress but no roots, ability to get a mortgage etc

Possible subjects I’m considering:
Journey from dancer to speaker - LIFE BALANCE – learned throughout my time performing
What do I want to do next and how do I get there (finding my own voice)
How do you get the life/work balance right
How do you fill the void of performing when you change careers
Developing my curriculum for educating my clients
What’s the best way for me to help people/educate
With so many opportunities, how do you choose
