Hey guys
Here's the link to my first ever pilot survey entitled People's experiences of Public Speaking/Life Coaches. So much easier than i thought it was going to be. Survey Monkey is such an amazing tool.
It's objective is to help me investigate people's experiences and views of public speakers/life coaches.
Phil's Pilot Survey for BAPP
It should take no more than 4-5mins and i would really appreciate any feedback.
Thank you in advance for your help and time.

DeleteHi Phil
ReplyDeleteA good set of questions for your survey. You seem to know how to ask the questions.. I liked the age group section and the numerical order of importance question which was a good contrast to have in the overall survey. The ‘monkey survey’ gives us ten free questions, I feel I could ask more, which would include more of the subject point. Did you find the same?
I had a temp job working for ‘market research’ and made survey ‘phone calls’. These where survey’s for specialist professionals such as doctors etc. These survey’s had to be booked and incentives where given to the individuals. In return for their time spent on the survey’s in some cases up to an hour, money vouchers of high value were offered. These lines of questions were very specific and time needed to be unpicked and answered. Clearly a subject for niche market. Have you found your niche market, age group or subject? Hope fully survey’s like these may shine a light on what we want to do... We’ve had brief discussions on this subject at campus sessions and since then I’ve taken the courage to speak face to face to people. You have to put yourself out there....

Hey Corinda
DeleteFirstly thank you for taking the time to do the survey and ask such great, thought provoking questions afterwards.
Your point on finding/knowing your Niche before making the survey is a great one. Although on this occasion i was interested in having more questions raised and discovering more areas to explore brought up by the broad opinions shared on the survey than seeking to prove a point. Being crystal clear on a small subject you want to explore/verify hugely improves the results you get. I will do this much more next time.
I wish, on one hand, that i had had the option of having more questions but having that limitation forced me to be more specific with my questioning and desired information which actually really helped me, a person who constantly hungers for more and more information, and then stresses out through an overload of information.
I actually have an Interview and observation booked for tomorrow morning. Not really been nervous re this part as this is, I think, my strong point, face to face(although it will be very different interviewing rather than just chatting-I do intend to try to keep it as informal as possible to draw out as much honesty in the answers possible). It's been more the focus group and survey that have been troubling me. The focus group I had with you guys at the last campus session was very interesting and I got a lot from it, could have been more had I been able at that time to be more specific and clear on my enquiry/desired outcome. This was one of the most valuable learnings in its self though. Survey I had a mental block with as the results are not particularly to me as I want to interview 3 speakers/coaches re their journey/lives and take on the career. Saying this though it will be interesting looking at the data gathered from the survey to see it from the public/clients point of view (something that will later on be very interesting for me) and the process of preparing it and feed back will I'm sure be beneficial to.
I hope that your plan's coming together. Shout me f there's anything i can do to help.

phil, I was a little confused by the 2nd question. I answered as best I could though. I wonder if you could be a little more specific in your phrasing? I can't go back to look at it now that i've already completed the survey, but it was something to do with good things I experienced while someone was doing public speaking? It becomes more obvious as the survey goes on, but as it was only the 2nd question, I was a bit confused...probably just me though lol

Hey Sarah
DeleteI agree 100% with you that those 2 questions re your experiences both positive and negative can be worded in a much more helpful way. You make a very interesting point though that had they been later on in the survey they may possibly have been easier to understand. I am aware that you can randomise the order in which the questions are posed to the respondents, which i decided to avoid on this survey as "it didn't matter with this survey which order they are answered in". Clearly i should give this more thought next time.
Thank you for your input Sarah.
