Task 1c: Audio-Visual

Hi Guys.

This is only my second ever upload to Youtube (the first being yesterday for a job audition) a testemony to the skills I'm learning on this course.

I wanted to do this all in one take, no cue cards, warts and all, simply on my iphone at home. The reason for this decision is partly as i do not yet know how to edit things, but primarily because i am a huge perfectionist which easily leads me to procrastinate and I felt it was of the utmost importance, with my intended career in professional speaking, that i get used to people seeing me as i am, with no frills and spills, and doing it in one take as i will have to do in a seminar or lecture.

I hope you enjoy

  1. Hi there Phil. I've just watched your you tube video. I think you come across very well on camera. It was nice to see the real you speaking, but also great to be able to see you speaking for the whole time. You were very natural and sincere. I didn't speak in front of the camera for the whole time on my video because I found it very difficult and embarrassing. This is a skill that I would hope to improve on.
I think you did a really good job!
I hope to meet you at a campus session hopefully next module.

  2. I agree with Emily, its the natural warmth and authenticity that comes through and makes your presentation watchable.

A skill in public speaking no doubt, but a pretty good personal skill as well.

  3. Hi Phil
I can't believe you mentioned me in your video clip, I just laughed! but thank you very much for the plug! Well, I agree with Emily and Alan, you come across as comfortable and natural infront of the camera and I could see that you weren't worried about hesitating and pausing..Something I must definately improve on..I can see that you have the ability to hold people's attention and have good control of the task in hand. Ideal for public speaking. Phil, I look forward to meeting you and your carismatic personality.

  4. Hey Phil.

Congratulations on such a great, down to earth, yet professional video. I think it highlights perfectly how your experiences in the business have helped you with your path for the future in public speaking. There was no need for editing, or music as it was straight to the point and still enjoyable to watch.
There is still plenty of time throughtout the course to get a grips with editing clips and putting music in the background (I'm hoping, as this is definately something I will need time to work on!)
But I really thought it was a great first video where we could get an insight of your personality! Well done you! :-)

  5. Hey Phil,
Your video is great, really natural and confident. I am finding that i am doing precisely what you were trying to avoid. I am a complete perfectionist and am totally procrastonating but your video has really inspired me to just get on with it so hopefully I will have my video up by this time next week!
